Although WhatsApp is among the most-used social media platforms today, in comparison to other platforms like Instagram and Snapchat, it has a relatively straightforward user interface. And if you think about it, it also makes sense since the main purpose behind WhatsApp was to enable smooth conversations between people. In other words, messaging was always the central feature of this platform.
However, you’ll find people adding attractive profile pictures and captivating “About,” changing and updating them regularly to make their social presence more appealing.
But have you ever seen people tweaking with their names or keeping it blank? How can that be done?
Well, that’s what we’re going to teach you in our blog today.
Why Are We Required to Add Name on Whatsapp?
Before we get into the details of how you can keep an empty space in place of your name on WhatsApp, let’s talk about why we need to add on WhatsApp at all.
I mean, when you give someone your contact number to connect or talk on WhatsApp, they’ll already know who you are, won’t they? So, for what purpose does WhatsApp ask us to add our names while we make an account on the platform?
Well, the answer to this is quite simple. When you text someone who doesn’t know you or hasn’t saved your number, they can click on your profile and see your name written below to know who you are. In a manner, it acts as a safety measure against people who tend to text strangers for no reason.
With that being said, there are many ways around it. Some people add their pet names here, while others randomly pick some emoji or even a false name. However, what’s truly difficult is leaving the name section empty because every time you try, WhatsApp will remind you that it’s not meant to be empty.

How to Keep Empty or Blank Name on Whatsapp
Although WhatsApp doesn’t ideally allow its user to keep their name section empty, there are two simple tricks that can help you do it. Let’s take a look at both of them below:
- The first thing you need to do is copy the following two symbols: ⇨ ຸ
- Open the Whatsapp app on your phone.
- Tap on the three dots icon at the top and select the Settings option.
- After that, tap on your name and it will take you to the Profile page.
- Here, you’ll see the Name section right under your profile picture, which would currently have your name filled in.
- Can you see the green pencil on the right of your name? Click on it to edit the name.
- Remove the current name and then paste the symbols you copied earlier (⇨ ຸ).
- Are you done? Now, all you need to do is remove only the arrow symbol (⇨), leave the other symbol (ຸ) be, and tap on the tick icon to save your edits.
- That’s it, you have successfully set blank or empty name on Whatsapp.
Now, I know what you might be thinking? Is this weird symbol going to be your name? Well, that’s the fun part. When you save the (ຸ) as your name, after you save it, it’ll disappear, showing a blank space instead. Wasn’t that interesting?
Now, let’s check out the other trick.
The second trick is quite similar to the first one; only here, instead of the characters, you have to copy this: (⠀)
Now, it might look like there’s just a blank space between the brackets, but there isn’t. Just trust me and copy it. Done? Now follow the same steps that we did in the last trick to reach your name section. Click on the pencil, backspace your name, and paste (⠀) there. Now, you can hit save and marvel at how WhatsApp allowed you to keep an empty name. Enjoy your blank space!
Frequently Asked Questions
Q1: How many people can I forward a message to at once?
You can forward a message to only 5 people at a time. However, if you want to forward it to more people, you can create a broadcast list as well. It works like a channel; only all the recipients will receive your message personally without realizing that your message was a forwarded one.
Q2: How many pictures can I send to people on WhatsApp at once?
Although initially, the WhatsApp users were only allowed to send up to 10 photos at a time, the limit has now been revised and extended up to 30.
Q3: Can I upload a 3-minutes long video on my WhatsApp status?
Unfortunately, you cannot. The length limit on the videos uploaded on WhatsApp status is only 30 seconds. So, if you want to add your video, you’ll have to trim it to a 30-seconds length and then upload it. The trimming can be done directly while uploading as well.
