We will tell you if and how you can stop getting spam followers on Instagram. Read on as we talk about how you can keep your Instagram followers list clean and free of spam.

How to Stop Spam Accounts from Following You on Instagram

There is no definite method to get rid of spam followers once and for all, as there is no option on Instagram to detect spam accounts. You cannot enable or disable a function to stop getting spam followers– it’s not that simple.

You can, however, limit your interactions with these accounts by following some simple steps. With these steps, you can significantly decrease the number of spam followers you get.

1. Remove All Existing Spam Followers

First of all, you have to get rid of all the existing spam followers. Doing this will help reduce the spam accounts and inappropriate content you might see in suggestions.

It’s not enough to remove the accounts from your following list. They have to be blocked. Follow these steps to block multiple spam accounts quickly.

Step 1: Open the Instagram app and log in to your account.

Step 2: Go to the Profile section by tapping on the icon at the bottom-right corner of the app screen.

Step 3: Tap on the three parallel lines in the upper-right corner and select Settings.

Step 4: Go to Privacy settings. Scroll down to the bottom and select Blocked accounts.

Step 5: On the Blocked accounts page, tap on the plus (+) sign at the top-right corner. You will see all your followers and the accounts you follow.

Step 6: Tap on Block for a spam account, and select the first option to block any future accounts made by the same email address. Repeat this step for all spam accounts.

This method can be tedious if you have a lot of spam accounts. But it’s the best way to remove accounts quickly. Moving forward, make sure to block a spam account the moment you spot it.

2. Turn Off Profile Suggestions

Profile suggestions on Instagram are a way of increasing your network on the platform. Whenever you follow someone on Instagram, you see similar account suggestions so you can connect with more people. Similarly, you, too, appear as a suggestion on someone else’s profile.

Although you cannot disable these suggestions altogether, you can decide if you appear as a suggestion on someone’s profile. Follow these steps:

Step 1: Go to Instagram from your mobile browser, and log in to your account.

Step 2: Go to your Profile section and Tap on the Edit Profile button just below your username.

Step 3: Scroll down to the bottom of the Edit Profile page, and uncheck the box below Similar Account Suggestions.

3. Make Instagram Account Private

If you want to cut off spam accounts completely, making your account private is the most efficient option. Switching to the private mode will make it impossible to follow you without your approval.

So, you can approve the accounts that seem genuine and disapprove or ignore the rest. However, this method is not for you if you want to increase your followers.

Step 1: Open Instagram, and go to your Profile section.

Step 2: In the upper-right corner, tap on the three parallel lines and select Settings.

Step 3: Go to Privacy.

Step 4: You will see the Private Account option at the top of the Privacy page. Tap on the slider next to it, and hit the Switch to Private button.

That’s it. Your account will go private.
