Twitter is one of the largest social media platforms of all time. It has users from around the world who can share their political, humorous, or poetic views in less than two minutes. Its unique design and never-seen-before features ensure that Twitter will always remain an essential social media platform. Unlike Instagram and Snapchat, Twitter caters to a more mature audience. The main topics of discussion on the platforms are politics, mental and physical growth and well-being, and entrepreneurial tips and hacks.

While the content on Twitter isn’t entertaining for all internet users, it’s still important and relevant. That being said, there are millions of teenagers who consume and create content for Twitter. While that content isn’t the ideal Twitter bite, we’re all for a unique point of view from younger users.
In April 2022, Twitter made headlines after Tesla CEO Elon Musk offered to buy the platform for $44 billion. However, there was a discrepancy with the Twitter reports regarding the number of bots and spam users.
While the platform claimed less than 5% of the Twitter users were bots, Elon stated that the number was way more, at around 20%. Even though Twitter submitted many statistical reports, Musk didn’t pay much attention to them.
After much back and forth between the then-CEO Parag Agarwal and Elon Musk, the deal fell through. Nonetheless, the Twitter executive team accused Musk of trying to back out of a poorly thought, big financial obligation and is making up those issues as an excuse.
Be that as it may, it looked like matters had settled down for the time being. But in October 2022, Elon Musk acquired Twitter at the cost of roughly $43 billion. He went on to fire the CEO, CFO, and most of the high executive officials and general counsel.
Let’s see what this new Twitter acquisition brings; hopefully, we’ll only have good things to say about the platform in the near future!
In today’s blog, we’ll talk about whether or not it is possible to know if someone is online on Twitter.
How To Know If Someone Is Online on Twitter
You might be aware of the online status feature if you use WhatsApp or Instagram. It’s a highly useful feature for some, as it helps them determine if the person they wish to talk to is available on the platform.
It saves the users’ time and is efficient, but not for all. Many users state that this feature is an invasion of privacy and an overall nuisance. And although the future can be used in a useful way, it cannot be denied that it can put many users in an uncomfortable and awkward situation.
For example, let’s say that you met someone new and they ask for a way to contact you. You connect with them on Instagram but then realize that they’re rather annoying and that you don’t wish to talk to them anymore.
However, since it’s insensitive and impolite to ghost somebody or reject them via text, you choose to break the news to them in person. You get an A plus for chivalry, but that does mean that you’ll have to endure their constant texting for the next few days.
This gets particularly worse when you know they’ll find out whether or not you’re online because of a green dot next to your name in their Instagram DMs. When more and more people complained about this feature, Instagram finally launched an option where you can disable your online status.
Twitter users don’t need to worry about any such feature because there isn’t one! Twitter is primarily based on Tweets and opinions, not direct messages. So, there’s no option or feature that’ll tell you whether or not a user is online.
That being said, a couple of cues might tell you if a user is online or when was the last time they were active on the platform. Let’s see what those are, shall we?
Here’s how to tell if someone is online or was online on Twitter
Send them a message on Twitter
One of the ways to find out if someone’s online on Twitter is just to send them a message. If they reply quickly, they’re obviously online and using the platform. However, even if they don’t reply, it doesn’t necessarily mean they’re offline. They could just be avoiding your message or talking to somebody else.
Check their tweets and retweets
If texting them seems too uncertain, don’t worry; we understand. For a confirmed answer, check out their tweets and retweets. If their latest tweet or retweet was less than an hour ago, there’s a good chance they’re still online.
However, if they haven’t tweeted in a few days, there’s no telling if they’re using the platform or not.
Ask them about it directly
The certainty of your answer depends on your relationship with that person. If you’re close enough, you can call them and ask if they’re online. Even if it turns out they aren’t online, you can always ask them on call, whatever you would’ve on Twitter.
The last method is what we’d recommend for a quick and efficient fix. Besides, directness also leaves a lasting impression on the person you’re talking to. It shows how you don’t really have time to play games and go for what you want.
In the end
As we end this blog, let’s recap all we’ve discussed today.
There are two reactions to the online status feature on most social media platforms: they either love its efficiency or hate its privacy invasion. Fortunately, there’s always an option to turn it off, so everyone’s happy.
There’s no online status feature on Twitter. Don’t worry; there are still a few ways to find out if someone’s online on the platform. You can send them a DM, check out their tweets and retweets, or ask them about it directly.
