If you’ve been using Instagram for a while now, you might be aware of several lags and glitches on the Instagram mobile app which weren’t there before. You might’ve also noticed the new updates, which aren’t quite as smooth as they used to be.
Well, let us tell you exactly what’s happening right now. Instagram is a large social media platform with more than a billion monthly active users at the end of 2022. Although it was a big deal, they made a mistake in not estimating the amount of work it would take to keep the app running despite the crowd.
Instead of ensuring that the app still works well with that many active users, the developers instead focused on introducing a new update instead.
People worldwide complained about the outrageous upkeep of the platform, taking to Twitter to voice their opinions. Simultaneously, Instagram released an update that made all the posts full-screened, similar to the social media platform TikTok.
This update was also a loser with the users, as they didn’t like how Instagram was trying to change its aesthetic trademark into TikTok’s style.
In this string of bad decisions, Instagram was prepared to lose a substantial number of users, but that never happened. Everyone hated it, but no one outright stopped using it, as it was too big a part of most people’s lives just to be discarded.
This is a perfect example of how dependency doesn’t depend on your job; it depends on how well you do it. Would you have thought that you’ll ever depend on an app on your phone to tell you the news when newspapers were still being used primarily?
Anyhow, for now, it appears that Instagram is here to stay.
In today’s blog, we’ll talk about whether or not it is possible for you to change the amount of time your picture is displayed on your Instagram story.
Can You Change How Long Photo Displayed on Instagram Story?
Before you can get your hopes high, let us tell you: you can’t change how long your story stays up on Instagram. In fact, the entire point of the feature is to keep your picture up there for only 24 hours as a life update, not as a permanent milestone.
You have two options that you can choose from if you want to keep a picture on your Instagram profile for longer than 24 hours: posting the picture or creating a highlight.
When you post a picture on Instagram, it’ll always be visible on your profile grid for all your followers and the entire world if you have a public account.
Needless to say, unless it’s a remarkably good picture of you or something important, we won’t suggest posting it.
Stories are usually pictures of pretty leaves or coffee cups, or buildings. And while these pictures can perfectly bring together a dump post, they don’t work as well individually.
A good idea for you will be to create a highlight for your stories. Highlights usually contain pictures of the same thing or place on different days. For example, people have a highlight for their gyms, coffee runs, date nights, and even for their best friends.
A highlight will always be visible on your profile, but the viewer can choose not to view it.
Here’s how to add a story to your highlights
Step 1: Launch Instagram on your smartphone and log in to your account.
Step 2: The first screen that you see is your Instagram feed. You’ll find your story in the left corner at the top of the screen, right below the Instagram banner. Tap on it.
Step 3: On your story, you’ll see three icons at the bottom right corner. The middle one will be a heart enclosed in a circle, the icon of a highlight. Tap on it.
Step 4: You’ll see all your existing highlights on a pop-up menu upon clicking on the highlights icon. Tap on the highlight you wish to add this story to.
There you go. Whenever someone checks out that highlight on your profile, they’ll be able to see that story.
