Instagram is one of the world’s most popular social networking sites today. You can find everything and everyone there, from celebrities and influencers to decorative pots and cutlery. It is unlike anything this world has ever seen, continuously widening its horizons and experimenting with interactive and innovative features and designs. Firstly, there are users who’ve joined the platform just for fun and to connect with their friends. They usually have private accounts filled with pictures of themselves and their family.
Secondly, there are users who are aspiring content creators or influencers. They have highly maintained profile grids filled with professional photoshoot pictures and aesthetic dumps. They have more followers than the average users, but not a blue tick verification yet.
Next are the content creators who have succeeded, at least to some level, in their field. They have blue tick verification and hundreds of thousands of followers. Their posts are usually brand collaborations and promotions.
Then there are celebrities who don’t really care for their followers but who all have verified accounts. These include actors, writers, models, and other famous faces in the entertainment/sports industry.
Last are the business owners and brands. There are all kinds of businesses on the platform, from clothes, accessories, pottery, slime, customized water bottles: you name it. Business owners use the platform to promote their business and connect more closely with their customers.
Brands like Gucci, Chanel, Versace, and The Man Company use their Instagram accounts for announcing their new products, releases, and collaborations.
In today’s blog, we’ll discuss if someone can see that you viewed their story on Instagram if you don’t follow them.
Can Someone See That I Viewed Their Story on Instagram, If I Don’t Follow Them
Let’s say you have a bit of a falling out with one of your friends. Both of you unfollow each other, never to speak again. However, it’s not easy to just stop talking to our friends, is it?
So, since they have a public account, you go back to their profile and accidentally view their story. Now, you’re wondering if there’s a chance that they might find out you saw their Instagram story update.
Well, we despise being the ones to deliver bad news, but yes, they will be able to see that you’ve seen their story. It depends on whether or not they see it, as they won’t be notified about it, but you will be present on their viewers’ list should they wish to check.
If you’re in a similar situation, we understand what a problem you’ve gotten yourself into. However, it’s not all bad. They may see you checking in on them and let go of their hard feelings, right?
Here’s how to see the Instagram stories of a user
Step 1: Launch Instagram on your smartphone and log in to your account.
Step 2: The first screen you’ll see is your Instagram Feed. At the bottom of the page, you’ll see five icons.
Tap on the second one from the left, which is a magnifying glass icon.
Step 3: This will take you to your Instagram Explore section. At the top of the screen, you’ll see the search bar. Tap on it.
Step 4: Enter the name of the person you’re looking for in the bar, and hit enter.
Step 5: From the results that appear, select that person’s profile.
Step 6: Since you’re not following them, they must have a public/professional/business account if you want to see their profile.
On the three types of accounts we mentioned, you’ll see a colorful ring around the user’s profile picture at the top, showing that they’ve uploaded a story. Tap on that ring.
Now, you can see whatever stories they uploaded that day. Keep in mind that they will be able to see that you’re looking at their stories.
Can someone see that I viewed their highlight on Instagram if I don’t follow them?
Let’s say you viewed their highlights instead of their currently uploaded story and are wondering if they can tell what you’ve done. Well, luckily for you, they cannot tell if you’ve seen their past highlights.
This is because Instagram only allows its users to see the views on their stories for the first 24 hours. If that story is added to a highlight after 24 hours, the only thing the user will be able to tell is the number of views, not the viewers.
In the end
As we end this blog, let us recap all that we’ve talked about today.
Even if you don’t follow the user, they’ll know if you see their story. This is because your name will be added to their viewers’ list under their story. They might not see it, as they don’t receive a notification, but they certainly have the option to.
However, they won’t find out if you’ve seen their highlights, so you don’t need to worry about that.
