How to See What Groups Someone is in on Facebook

If you want to join some exciting groups but are confused about which ones to go for, your friends can come to your rescue. And what’s more, you don’t even need to bother each of your friends personally to ask for their suggestions.

Facebook lets you see the groups your friends are in through the Groups section of the Facebook app and website. The platform already has features in place that can tell you about the groups your friends have joined. Let’s look at detailed steps to perform the process separately in the Mobile App and the Desktop Website.

1. Facebook Mobile App (Android & iPhone)

Step 1: Open Facebook on your mobile phone, and log in to your account. Make sure the app is updated.

Step 2: After logging in, you will find yourself at the Home tab. Go to the Menu tab by tapping the three parallel lines at the top-right corner.

Step 3: You will see several “shortcuts” on the Menu tab. Tap the Groups shortcut under the All Shortcuts section.

Step 4: On the Groups page, you will see several tabs at the top. Go to the Discover tab.

Step 5: You will find many group suggestions in the Discover tab. Scroll down a little, and you will find the Friends’ groups section. This is the section you were looking for. The Friends’ groups section contains a list of all the groups your friends are in.

Step 6: Tap the blue See All button to see the complete list of your friends’ groups.

Step 7: By tapping on a specific group, you can see the group’s About info. To see which of your friends is a group member, tap the See All button next to the About Section of the Group’s Home Page.

In the About section, under Members, you will see which friends are members of the selected group.

Note that Step 7 is only valid for Public Groups. You won’t be able to see your friend’s name in the About Section of a Private Group. More on this later.

Now, let us see how you can see the same info on your PC.

2. Facebook’s Web Version

The overall process remains the same for the Desktop website, but with slight variations. Let’s look at detailed steps nevertheless.

Step 1: Open your web browser, go to https://www.facebook.com and log in to your Facebook account.

Step 2: In the Navigation Menu at the right side of the screen, you will see a list of options. Locate the Groups option from the list and click on it to go to the Groups page.

Or you can directly click on the Groups icon at the top.

Step 3: On the Groups page, you will see another list of options on the Navigation Menu. Click on Discover to see group suggestions.

Step 4: Scroll down the Discover page to find the Friends’ groups section. Here, you will see the list of groups your friends are in.

Step 5: Click on the See All button to see all of your friends’ groups.

Step 6: You can click on a Group Name to see the Group Details. To see which friends are in this group, go to the About section of the group and look at the Members area to see your friends who are members of the group.

Things to keep in mind

We saw how you could find the groups your friends are in by going to the Groups section of Facebook. While it is helpful to know the groups your friends follow, it would be more helpful if you could know which friend is in which group, right? As we mentioned in the previous sections, it is possible to do that. But there is a catch.

You can find the name of your friends in a group only if the group is Public. If you go to a Private Group, you won’t be able to see your friends’ names who are members of the group unless the friend is an admin or a moderator of the group.
